Templepatrick CC and Coleraine CC join forces for girls cricket
Templepatrick Cricket Club Templepatrick Cricket Club and Coleraine Cricket Club recently provided cricket for 40 girls aged 8 to 13 years old. Coleraine CC travelled with their Development Officer, Stephen McCartney to Templepatrick CC in Ballyclare to play as many games of KWIK cricket as possible in 2 hours. All girls were eagerly looking forward to the competition against another club after having had numerous sessions at their own clubs and schools but needing to go the extra step and play against opposition. Templepatrick CC Development Officer Andy McCrea stated “It was great to see so many girls enjoying the game and obviously putting into practice the skills that they have been picking up at their sessions.” He added “Both clubs have learnt that girls get far more involved when playing in a girl only environment and I encourage more clubs to go down this route if female cricket is to become healthier and the game in general is to open up its audience.” Templepatrick CC youth cricket continues to flourish with sessions for U17, U15, U13 and U11 players. Under 11s and a Wednesday night is a sight to behold with 80 Under 11s enjoying the game under the guidance of 8 coaches all volunteering their services. With the added backing of youth sponsorship from building developers, HOLM, the club continues to offer a quality service to the young people in the Newtrownabbey area. Anybody wanting to get involved in any way at Templepatrick CC should contact Andy McCrea on mccrea.a@sky.com or visit www.templepatrickcc.co.uk, similarly the Coleriane CC contact is Stephen McCartney and can be contacted on 028 70320968. |
