The 2016 Northern Cricket Union Gallagher Challenge Cup Final in Association with ClickEnergy

The final will take place on 29 July 2016 at The Green, Comber, home of North Down Cricket Club between CIYMS (Holders) and CSNI. David Holmes Presents a Video Preview of the NCU's Showpiece Day.

Running Order:
  • Introduction - North Down Cricket Club can trace their history back to 1857, with links to Thomas Andrews, designer of the ill-fated Titanic and the legendary Willie Andrews who captained the club for 39 years!
  • The Road to The Final – David recaps for us the route to the final for both sides.
  • An Introduction to Our Sponsors – Shane Matthews, Managing Director of Arthur J Gallagher in Northern Ireland tells us about the company and why they decided to sponsor the Challenge Cup.
  • Gordon Markey – Broking Director, tells us about the on the ground involvement with the NCU and the clubs.
  • Presidential Response – Peter McMorran, gives his thoughts on the day ahead and working with Arthur J Gallagher.
  • Richard Johnson – Cricket Ireland Vice-President and NCU Sponsorship Officer, gives us an overview of the magnificent Challenge Cup itself first contested in 1887 and describes how it quite literally rose from the ashes when destroyed by a fire at Downpatrick Cricket Club.
  • Andrew White – The former Irish international and current national selector shares his thoughts on playing in the Challenge Cup Final
  • The Captains – David Holmes talks with CIYMS skipper Nigel Jones and CSNI's Andrew Cowden ahead of the big day.
  • Gary Wilson – Current Irish international, Surrey County cricketer and CSNI stalwart, gives his experiences of playing in a Challenge Cup final for the club and what he will be doing on the day itself.

Records tumble during school match
Mark Adair - click for large photo On Saturday morning a schoolboy player from Sullivan Upper School scored 204 not out in an Under 15 cup match against Regent House.
The schoolboy in question is Mark Adair and his innings took place on the upper pitch at North Down Cricket Club in Comber. Once he had reached his double hundred he retired in the 19th over with one over to go in the innings.
To follow up his performance with the bat, in the afternoon he turned out for his club side Holywood and helped them to a 13 run victory over Woodvale by clean bowling the last 3 batsmen.
Mark's coach at Sullivan Upper, Paul Osborne, is wondering if this score is an Irish Schoolboy record or if it is a record for a 20 over a side match?
Mark represented the Belfast Inner Cities side last season and in 2011 is a member of the Northern Cricket Union's under 15 interprovincial team.
