MTB Northern Knights v Leinster Lightning - Match Report

NCU

MTB Northern Knights lost by 70-runs in their Inter-Provincial Trophy match against Leinster Lightning at Bready on Saturday.

Harry Tector won the toss and elected to bowl again at Bready. Mark Adair removed Kevin O'Brien in the powerplay, but had to wait until the eighth over to get their next wicket; Ross Adair bowling Andrew Balbirnie for 25.  Lorcan Tucker (33) and Simi Singh (57) shared a 50-run stand for the fourth wicket.

However, the wicket of Tucker started a steady flow of wickets as Leinster Lightning lost seven of them for 40 runs. Although, they were all out for 167 off the last ball of the innings. There were two wickets each for Ruhan Pretorius (2-29) and Ben White (2-30). Mark Adair (1-33), Ross Adair (1-25) and David Delany (1-30) also claimed a scalp apiece.

In the reply, MTB Northern Knights were 3-2 at the end of the first over – Paul Stirling and Jeremy Lawlor falling to Josh Little. They were soon 15-3, but Mark Adair (13) and James McCollum (24) steadied things. The pair shared a 32-run stand, but the wicket of Adair was a sign of things to come. MTB Northern Knights lost a further three wickets for 20 runs in 11 balls.

Neil Rock provided some resistance – striking 30 – but MTB Northern Knights were dismissed for 97 in 16.3 overs.

MTB Northern Knights are back in action tomorrow afternoon (4PM) as they take on Munster Reds at Bready.
