All Belfast Schools Cup Final
Robin Walsh It's to be an all-Belfast Ulster Bank Ulster Schools Cup final. Belfast Royal Academy became the first team to reach the final on Saturday and will play Campbell College who defeated holders RBAI on Monday. On Saturday (13th June) Academy defeated Coleraine Academical Institution by four wickets despite conceding 48 extras - 35 of them wides - when they bowled first in the 30-over game at Coleraine. However, Coleraine's batsmen could only muster 81 runs between them as they tumbled to 129 all out with David McLarnon doing the damage with 5 for 14. David Reid top scored with 33 as Academy secured victory for the loss of six wickets. Campbell were convincing winners over "Inst" this evening (Monday 15th June) in a high scoring 30-over semi-final. The holders posted 159 before being dismissed in the 28th over with Matthew Lightbody top scoring with 40 and Adam McCormick taking 4 for 20 for Campbell. The run chase proved a comfortable one for Campbell who secured their place in the final for the loss of five wickets with a half century by Paddy Beverland and 47 from Paddy Park doing the trick with almost five overs to spare. Andrew Knape was the pick of the RBAI bowlers with 4-32. Semi Final Results The final was originally fixed for Muckamore on Wednesday (June 17) but school examinations may force a change. |
