All-rounder day for Lord Mayor joining local schools to try out cricket
Belfast City Council A series of 'Try Cricket' days for local schools are taking place in Belfast this week, organised by Belfast City Council, through the Every Body Active 2020 programme, in conjunction with the Northern Cricket Union. Lord Mayor, Alderman Brian Kingston, joined pupils from primary schools in east Belfast at one of the free coaching days at Avoniel Leisure Centre today which focused on target throwing, bowling and batting among other cricketing skills. Around 600 children from across the city are participating in the Try Cricket days which are also been held in Girdwood Community Hub on Wednesday and Ballysillan Leisure Centre on Thursday. The cricket coaching lessons are being delivered by the Northern Cricket Union Development Team. Belfast City Council secured National Lottery funding to deliver Sport Northern Ireland's Every Body Active 2020 programme which aims to encourage everyone to be more active, more often.
