Another Sunday - another Cup in the Carrickfergus trophy cabinet - congratulations to them on their 3rd piece of silverware this season - can they make it four with the Section One championship?

Certainly they missed out on a wonderful opportunity to take command when losing to Downpatrick in an exciting finish at Strangford Road on Saturday. The visitors total of 209-4 looked good enough with Indrajeet Kamtekar top scoring with 84 and the evergreen Ryan Eagleson next best with 69no but Downpatrick showed great spirit to reach the D/L target of 174 for the loss of 7 wickets with only one ball remaining of their 36 overs. Amit Patil's 71 held the innings together and Dale Mullan weighed in with a valuable 34.
With 40 points from 15 games Carrick are still in the box seat but a thrilling finish is very much on the cards with Downpatrick certainly not out of contention with 36 points from 15 games.

Meanwhile leaders Lurgan (44 points from 17 games) suffered a heavy defeat at Pollock Park where the visitors Bangor bowled them out for a paltry 65 with teenage sensation Taj Kwelu taking 3-18 and Chris Burns backing him up with 3-38. With Kuda Samunderu unbeaten on 35 Bangor cruised to an 8 wicket win.

In another low scoring affair at Ballygomartin Road Woodvale dismissed Holywood for 27 with Paul Robinson in fine form with 7-11 (his 2nd seven wicket haul of the season). Sam Fleming's 19no gave the home side an easy 10 wicket win.

Runs were also scarce at The Meadow in Dundrum where the highlight of the home side's 67 all out was a hat trick by Cliftonville's Alan Blain (4-4) with skipper Brian Anderson joining in with 3-17. The visitors lost 4 wickets before reaching their small target, Matthew McCord best with 25.

At Queensway heavy rain caused the postponement of the game against Templepatrick.

On Sunday Woodvale moved into contention with 40 points from 16 games when they outclassed Dundrum at The Meadow. The visitors total of 299-8 was largely due to a century by Chris Campbell (109) and he was well supported by skipper Michael Irwin (90). In reply the home side could only muster 87 with Campbell completing a fine all round performance with 4-25 and Mark Irwin keeping it in the family also with 4-25.

Holywood slipped nearer to Section 2 with a defeat at The Cloughan where in form home batsmen Jay Hunter (74) and James Jackson (51) starred in a final total of 189-9 for Templepatrick. This was too big a task for the visitors who were bowled out for 138.
