Northern Knights in Thrilling Victory

Richard White (NCU PRO)

The Northern Knights won their first game in this years Hanley Energy Inter-Provincial 50 Series at Eglinton, beating the North West Warriors by two wickets.

The North West Warriors were bowled out for 139, with Irish International Niall O'Brien holding the innings together with an unbeaten 54. Mark Adair excelled with the ball in his eight overs, taking three wickets for 16 runs, and spin bowlers Jacob Mulder and James Cameron Dow each took two wickets.

The Northern Knights looked to be on course for a comfortable victory at 112 for 4, and needing only 28 runs to win. However, three wickets fell in three balls, without further score, including Chris Dougherty for 46.

The game was firmly in the balance, before an eighth wicket partnership of 23 runs between Neil Rock and Jacob Mulder brought the Northern Knights to within five runs of victory.

After the dismissal of Jacob Mulder the victory was sealed when Stephen Bunting hit Graeme Kennedy for four through the covers.

This was the final 50 Over fixture for the Northern Knights in the 2018 series.
