Cregagh Host 3rd Annual Primary School Kwik Cricket Tournament
Graham Watt / Cregagh CC
This year Cregagh embarked upon an ambitious plan of sending their coaches out to 6 local Primary Schools along with the support of Simon Johnston from Cricket Ireland.
The schools who took part were
Euston Street,
Harding Memorial,
Cregagh,
Orangefield,
Cairnshill, and
Loughview Integrated.
Each week a coach from Cregagh CC would go into each school to deliver a Kwik Cricket session over an eight week programme. It was estimated that in total they reached over 100 kids between the 6 schools!!
On Friday past Cregagh held the tournament which was contested between Orangefield, Harding Memorial and Cairnshill. A great afternoon was had by all and certainly the kids enjoyed the games as did the coaches.
After 3 rounds of group games the final was contested by Cairnshill and Orangefield.
In what was a great final that went to the final ball with Orangefield needing a six from the last ball, Cairnshill emerged victorious. Well done Cairnshill!!
Cregagh would like to pass on sincere thanks to their coaches who took up the challenge of going into the schools to deliver the programme; Adam McCormick, Robert Moore, Anthony Henry, Carl Rae and David McCormick.
Without the coaches this simply would not have happened and they should all be very proud of what was achieved.
Cregagh would also like to place on record their gratitude to Simon Johnston and Cricket Ireland for their support with this initiative.
Finally a thank you to Cregagh's grounds convenor Stuart Catterson for arranging the Kwik cricket wickets on the day and the Bar Manager of Cregagh Sports Club Matt Foster for the kind sponsorship of the crisps, water and sweets for the children.
