Foyle and Grosvenor Book Place In Last Eight Of Schools Cup
Robin Walsh Foyle College and Grosvenor Grammar School are the latest of four teams to book a place in the last eight of the Ulster Bank Schools Cup with victories over Methodist College and Royal School Armagh respectively. The foundation for Foyle’s convincing 66-run win over Methody today (Tuesday May 20) was laid by a brilliant 90 by Bready’s wicket-keeper batsman Andrew Austin that included three sixes and nine fours. Michael Rankin weighed in with 50 in Foyle’s huge total of 225 for 5 in their 30 overs. It was always too much for the Belfast school who fell well short at 159 for 7 with James McCollum notching a half century and Roger Long bagging 3 for 32 for Foyle. Grosvenor Grammar entered the quarter finals with an eight wicket over Royal School Armagh. Armagh were dismissed for 81 and the Belfast side knocked off the required runs with little difficulty. Down High School with a nine wicket win over Friends School and Regent House with a narrower two wicket win over Lurgan College were first to secure places in the quarter finals. Down High will now host Grosvenor; Regent will travel to either holders Limavady Grammar or Sullivan Upper and Foyle will entertain either Wallace Hugh School or Campbell College. The remaining quarter final will see Strabane Academy or Ballyclare High School play RBAI or BRA. A total of four second round matches have been postponed and are expected to be completed inside the next week. The last two teams to reach the second round were BRA with an eight wicket win over Antrim Grammar and Sullivan Upper who beat Larne Grammar by five wickets. The Second Round draw and results so far are:
