Andrew Austin (9 fours) and Francis Collins rescued the Schools from a precarious 42-3 with a fine stand of 117 before Thomas Magowan's devastating bowling spell reduced the home side from 61-1 to 95 all out.

Sam Gordon and Francis Collins opened with a stand of 67 and Paddy Beverland provided late impetus with 35 off 21 balls. Ryan Macbeth and Thomas Magowan kept the hosts' reply well in check, assisted by three run-outs.

Paddy Beverland and Sam Gordon added 72 for the third wicket before Francis Collins finished the innings 6 2(nb) 6 6 4. Andrew Austin, with three stumpings and a catch, backed up very tight bowling by John Matchett (1-12) and Ross Miller (1-13) as the Scots fell well short.

Skipper John Matchett's splendid maiden century (103 balls, 14 fours) saw the Schools comfortably overhaul a testing West of Scotland total through partnerships of 113 with Sam Gordon and 96 with Patrick Dolaghan (53 balls, 10 fours).
