Northern Knights secure runners up in IP20
The Northern Knights secured runners up spot to Leinster Lightning, in the Hanley Energy Inter-Provincial 20 Over Series (IP20) in Dublin this weekend. On Friday night the Knights were defeated by Leinster Lightning by 27 runs, as Andrew Balbirnie (72) and Simi Singh (69) helped set an imposing 207 for 5 wickets. Tyrone Kane's 5 wickets ensured the Knights came up short, despite the contributions of Shane Getkate (45), Harry Tector (36), and Adam Dennison (27). On Saturday the Northern Knights overcame Munster Reds by 39 runs, defending an all out total of 165. Three wickets each for Shane Getkate and Jacob Mulder helped end the Reds innings on 126. The weekend at Pembroke Cricket Club ended in style for the Northern Knights with a 49 run victory over North West Warriors. Greg Thompson hit a 44 ball 80 runs, including five maximums, and with assistance from Shane Getkate (41), and Mark Adair (33), the Knights set the Warriors 194 runs to win. A disciplined bowling performance ensured the Warriors finished their allotted twenty overs on 144 for 5, with David Rankin scoring 67. |
