NCU Independent Non-Executive Director

NCU

The Northern Cricket Union of Ireland (NCU) is a regional governing body for the sport of cricket in Ireland. We are seeking to appoint an Independent Non-Executive Director to our Board. This is a fantastic opportunity to help shape the development of cricket in the NCU region at a key time in the history of the sport, engaging with a range of partners, funding bodies, a committed volunteer network and the grassroots membership.

The NCU Board currently comprises a Chair, vice-Chair, Treasurer, six representatives from the key areas of our game (Domestic, Finance and Representative) and up to three independent directors. All Board members are non-executive and act in a voluntary capacity.

There will be approx. six board meetings per annum. Attendance is possible by Zoom, if necessary, but the successful candidates are preferred to attend meetings in person. Each Board member is likely to be asked to serve on at least one sub-committee, with a broadly similar meeting pattern.

Independent directors are appointed to bring specific additional skills and expertise to the Board and to provide independent judgement and objective challenge on issues of strategy, governance, performance, and resources. 'Independent' is defined as not having a material relationship with the Northern Cricket Union i.e.. a relationship that might interfere with the exercise of a director's independent judgement.

At the present time we are seeking Directors with the following skills and experience:

  • Senior-level professional experience of commercial and sponsorship management.
  • Senior-level professional experience of PR, Communications and Marketing.

In line with our target of achieving more diversity on our Board, the NCU Nominations Committee would particularly welcome applicants from areas that are currently underrepresented, namely women or those from an ethnic minority background.

Individuals who wish to be considered should send a letter/email outlining what you believe you would bring to the role and a concise CV setting out how and when the relevant experience has been gained should be sent by post to the address below or via email to patrick.grimes@ncucricket.org for the attention of the Chairman of the Nominations Committee and will be confidential.

The closing date for expressions of interest will be Thursday 27th October 2022.

This appointment will be voluntary commencing in December 2022 for an initial period of up to 3 years. No remuneration is associated with the role.

Letter address: Northern Cricket Union, The Pavilion, Stormont Estate, Upper Newtownards Road, Belfast, BT4 3TA
