LVS T20 Cup Round 5 Match Round-up

NCU

Lisburn secured their second victory of the Lagan Valley Steels T20 Cup on Saturday after defeating Instonians by two wickets in a final over thriller at Shaw's Bridge.

Needing nine runs off the last over, Boyd Rankin struck the winning runs off the penultimate ball of the match – passing the target of 139.

The victory was set up by opener Faiz Fazal – who scored 45 off 42 deliveries in an innings that included three sixes. There were also contributions from skipper Adam Berry (21) and Glenn Halliday (13), but it was Matthew Humphreys – who scored 25 off 20 balls – that swung momentum for the visitors.

Humphreys, who had his first taste of being involved with the MTB Northern Knights this week, hit Ben Rose for two sixes before getting out. However, these sixes fired up Lisburn. Lisburn lost four wickets for 19 runs, but it was David Simpson alongside Rankin that saw the Wallace Park outfit over the line.

Earlier in the match, Oliver Metcalfe (56) scored a half-century for Instonians. There were two wickets for Callum Atkinson, Mark Berry and Rankin. Humphreys and Simpson claimed a scalp each.

Elsewhere, CIYMS defeated North Down by five runs in a repeat of last year's final. A half-century from Chris Dougherty was backed up with 36 from Mark Adair as the Belmont side reached 140-6 in their 20 overs. North Down scored 135-5 in reply; Alistair Shields top-scored with 32.

In the battle of the top two, CSNI defeated Carrickfergus at Middle Road. Three wickets each for Ben Mackey and Luke Georgeson restricted the hosts to 120-8 in their 20 overs. Ross Adair top-scored with 42 in the chase as CSNI secured the win with 14 balls to spare.

At Ballygomartin Road, Greg Thompson struck a four and a six in the final over as Waringstown defeated Woodvale. Lee Nelson top-scored for the Villagers with 42 as they chased down the 134 required for victory to win by six wickets.

The T20 Cup continues midweek with the fixtures as follows:
