Robert McKinley joins Instonians

Instonians CC

Instonians have announced that Robert McKinley has joined the club from Ballymena Cricket Club. Robert (22) as well as Ballymena has played for all the Ireland underage groups from U 13s up to U 19s and last year played for the Northern Knights. He attends Loughborough College and plays for the University team. Robert is a fast bowler who can also bat.

1st XI Captain Nikolai Smith said, "Everyone at Instonians is delighted by the news that Robert has decided to join us. He showed last year for the Northern Knights that he is an extremely talented cricketer who bowls at a good pace and is a more than handy batter.

I look forward to having him in our side and I think that not only will we help improve his game but he will help everyone around the team with the work ethic he brings with him. We wish Robert all the best in the coming season and look forward to having him around the dressing room."

Robert himself went onto say, "I'm looking forward to a new challenge with a talented group of lads, where we can hopefully play in cup finals and high pressure games and win trophies.

Ballymena have looked after me exceptionally well since I moved there, I have only good things to say about them and wish them all the best this year in section 1.

I'm looking forward to learning off experienced players and seeing how they go about things and deal with different situations.  I want to continue to improve and show off my skills and then take advantage of any opportunity that presents itself, but obviously my ambition is to play at as high a level as I can and I think Instonians will help me do that."

New club coach Gavin Rogers who was delighted at the new acquisition said, "Robert displays all the attributes of a focussed and determined cricketer, who constantly shows his desire to improve and be the best he can be. This is just the type of cricketer I want at Instonians and I look forward to working with him in his cricketing career. Robert will also be an ideal example to those upcoming cricketers at Instonians of what hard work and positive attitude can achieve."
