Hannah’s Century Paves Way for Derby Win
An undefeated century by Hannah Grieve (believed to be the first for a woman in NCU cricket) paved the way for an emphatic 97 run win for Lurgan Ladies in the opening game in their Premier League defence. Supported by Samantha Todd and Jane Kilpatrick, the town side amassed 211 for the loss of just 1 wicket in their 25 overs. Hannah and Samantha set Lurgan off on a brisk start with the 50 run mark being passed inside 10 overs with Samantha eventually out, bowled by Lyttle for 23. That was to be the only success for the villagers as Jane Kilpatrick joined Hannah in the middle and both continued to plunder runs off the Waringstown attack. Hannah completed her century and finished on 109 not out, an innings that included 11 fours and a six, with Jane not out for an excellent 39. Waringstown openers Cara Murray (43) and Charlotte Lyons (21) made a solid start but were always behind the run rate thanks to some tight bowling by Lauren Breakey and Jane Kilpatrick. All the Lurgan bowlers proved economical with Alex Craig the most successful, taking the wickets of both openers for 21 runs in her 5 overs as the visitors were pegged back to 114 for 3 wickets after their 25 overs.
