Ulster Bank League Section 1 Roundup - 16th September 2014
Gordon Scott In the final weekend of the season there was high drama at either end of the League table with Carrickfergus being confirmed as Champions and Cliftonville surviving narrowly in a close finish. On Saturday at Middle Road the home side confirmed their pre season rating as favourites by defeating Cliftonville by 7 wickets. In reply to the visitors 186-7 in which Neil Cahill (63) and Warren McCully (49) were best Ian Parkhill's side were indebted to Jamie Holmes (73no) and Indrajeet Kamtekar (69no) in an excellent partnership which sealed the win and the Trophy - their fourth piece of silverware this season and a remarkable achievement. Also on Saturday Downpatrick squeezed home against Woodvale at Ballygomartin Road where the visitors total of 170-5 (Jordan Wade79no and Ryan Smith 53no) was reduced on D/L to 150 which proved only 2 runs beyond a gritty Woodvale batting unit with Mark Adair with 46no and Jonathan Burnside (34) best. With the remaining relegation spot beckoning, Clintonville's final game on Sunday with Templepatrick as the opposition was crucial.
