Appointment of Patrick Grimes as NCU's first Chief Executive

NCU

The Northern Cricket Union is delighted to confirm the appointment of Patrick Grimes as its first Chief Executive.

After a competitive interview process, the role, which is funded by Sport NI and the International Cricket Council (ICC), has been filled by the experienced Grimes.

Evolving from the previous position of General Manager which was superbly carried out by Angela Platt in recent years, Paddy will be responsible for managing the implementation of the recently launched 2021-23 Strategic Plan.

Paddy joins the NCU from the sportsground construction industry and he has been involved in the building and management of some of the most notable venues in Ireland and beyond.

For the past three years he has been Chair of the Board of Directors of Banbridge District Enterprises – a voluntary role that aims to support the development of business and enterprise in that area.

Paddy has a keen interest in a range of sports and has held numerous roles in governance, including in hockey, football and golf over the last 25+ years.

He is still heavily involved in hockey where he is the joint Head Coach of Ulster Under-18 Boys and has experience in coaching and managing teams right up to international level.

Speaking on his appointment, Paddy said: "I am delighted to have been appointed as Chief Executive of the Northern Cricket Union."

"The ambition which the Union has demonstrated in the new 2021-23 Strategic Plan excites me and sets a real focus for our work in the forthcoming years. I am looking forward to working with all our stakeholders, including the Board, staff, volunteers, strategic partners, sponsors and especially the clubs, to continue creating an environment which allows us to move the game forward at every level."

Sam Beckett, the Northern Cricket Union Chair, added: "We are very pleased that Paddy has accepted the offer to become Chief Executive and we are very confident that his undoubted skills and experience will help to grow the game and the organisation."
