MTB Northern Knights v North West Warriors - Match Report

NCU

MTB Northern Knights were defeated by seven wickets in their opening Inter-Provincial Trophy match of season against North West Warriors.

A half-century by Warriors wicketkeeper Stephen Doheny helped the Warriors seal victory with 8.5 overs to spare.

North West Warriors captain Andy McBrine won the toss and elected to field at Pembroke.

Luke Georgeson and James McCollum shared an opening stand of 41 before the New Zealander hit Jared Wilson to McBrine to depart for 10.

Jeremy Lawlor (4) fell soon after and McCollum (48) was dismissed nine balls later – two runs short of his half-century.

This then sparked a collapse as the Knights lost seven wickets for 37 runs in 38 balls – going from 75-3 to 112-9. A 33-run partnership between Ben White and Graeme McCarter helped the team post 135-9 in their 20 overs.

In the chase, North West Warriors got off to a strong start – adding 41 for the first wicket before White had William Porterfield caught by Georgeson for 15.

Opener Doheny (54) had support from Nathan Maguire (14), but Shane Getkate (36 not out) and William McClintock (16 not out) saw the Warriors over the line in the 12th over.

MTB Northern Knights are in action again tomorrow at Pembroke, where they take on Leinster Lightning (11am).
