Andrew White Announces His Retirement From Representative Cricket
NCU Andrew White has announced his retirement from representative cricket with immediate effect. Andrew who has captained the Northern Knights in all three forms of the Interprovincial series did so in advance of the selectors naming a pre-season training squad. NCU chairman Andy Clement expressed the union's gratitude to Andrew for his commitment to the Knights saying: "Andrew was an obvious choice to captain the Knights, being highly respected both as a player and individual. He has led them with distinction over the past three years and his professionalism and commitmenthas been a model for others in the side. His support for the development of young players within the union has been clear to all and continues in this regard with his leadership of the Union's Cricket Academy." Andrew said: "In representing the Northern Cricket Union I have given my absolute all to a province that I have loved playing for and have always been proud to represent.'" "I will miss immensely walking out as a player and captain of the Northern Knights, however if I can be of any assistance now, or in the future with the direction that the Knights and NCU wish to move then I am more than happy to play my part." "Due to the added pressures of family life along with undertaking responsibility of the Andrew White NCU Cricket Academy, I feel that now, it is important to dedicate my time in a new direction. The Academy, I believe, is proving to be a success and we are putting together the building blocks of something that will be crucial to the development of future Northern Knights cricketers and hopefully Ireland Internationals." In the past 3 seasons in all three forms of the revived Interprovincial matches Andrew played a total of 30 matches scoring a total of 682 runs and taking a total of 38 wickets. |
