Donaghadee CC and Belfast Telegraph hit £10K Charity Total

Jordan McCluskey / Donaghadee CC

Donaghadee CC and The Belfast Telegraph recently passed a landmark figure from their annual charity cricket game. Over the past 5 years, the two sides have played out a very friendly social game of T20 cricket all in the name of charity.

And this year, with the annual figure easily passing over £1,000, the running total has now passed £10,000 – a phenomenal achievement by all involved.

"It really has been a highlight of our year to bring the guys from the Belfast Telegraph down to Donaghadee – we are a welcoming club and the chance to enjoy a light hearted game to raise money and awareness for such brilliant causes every year is an easy decision when planning out our season" said Jordie McCluskey from Donaghadee CC.

Every year has had a different charity, with Children's Heartbeat, Tiny Life, Cancer Fund for Children and The NI Children's Hospice all being used in addition to this year's charity, the fantastic Marie Curie Hospice in Belfast.

Mark Reilly from The Belfast Telegraph said "The annual cricket game with Donaghadee is a highlight of the summer for us all at The Belfast Telegraph – a lot of us don't know anything about cricket and the rules but the game is so light hearted and so enjoyable that it is a really fantastic event. But of course the real winner is the charity every year and to hit a total of £10,000 raised for a relatively small event is absolutely brilliant, we are already looking forward to next year!"

Although the games may always play out in the same way, with Donaghadee easily winning, there are no victory parades or celebrations, only for the charity and the money that is raised for them.
