The new Cricket Ireland Chair, Brian MacNeice made a welcome visit to the NCU on Saturday last to not only meet with NCU Board members but also to attend a match in the NCU region. The meeting began with a presentation by Kieran Devlin from the NICCSA to update Brian and the NCU Board on the development proposals for Stormont including the construction of an indoor hall, new conferencing facilities and changing rooms to meet ICC requirements , permanent spectator seating etc. Brian then made a short presentation to NCU Board members informing us that Ross McCollum (immediate past Chair) will retain responsibility for forthcoming discussions with the ICC regarding the next cycle of ICC funding from 2024 - 2031 leaving Brian the opportunity to initially concentrate on the Domestic game in Ireland. Brian highlighted some of his priorities such as developing the relationship between CI and the Provincial Unions; improving match and practice facilities; developing the Womens and Girls game etc. The meeting also gave the NCU Board members an opportunity to highlight some issues affecting the NCU and its member clubs. Finally, Brian visited The Green in Comber where he was able to meet with the North Down VC Colin McCaughey and watch some of North Down's Clear Currency ISC match against Brigade. Unfortunately, due to an over run-in previous engagements Brian's time commitment didn't allow him time to visit any other grounds but has assured he will do on another occasion. The NCU thanks to Brian for visiting the NCU Board and region so early in his tenure. |
