NCU Men's Performance Cricket Groups for the 2023 season

NCU

The Northern Cricket Union is happy to announce their Men's Performance Groups for the 2023 season.

Recently appointed Director of Representative Cricket, Andrew Cowden has commented on the release of the NCU Men's Performance Squads.

"I would like to congratulate all the players named in the Knights, Emerging Knights and U19 winter training squads and I wish them well during the winter months as they all strive to develop their own games and to strengthen us as a union. I'm delighted that 42 players will utilise the performance environment over the winter months.

I would like to thank all the players, coaches and, in particular, Head Coach Simon Johnston, Ian Butler and James Cameron Dow for their hard work to date during the winter programme. Finally, I'd like to congratulate our Irish players Paul Stirling and our captain Mark Adair on their recent success during the T20 World Cup and to wish them well in their current T20 franchise cricket in Abu Dhabi and USA, respectively."

Head Coach of the Knights Simon Johnston added "We feel we have a very exciting and young senior training panel in place for the winter, the boys have been in for 5 weeks now, and their attitude and dedication has been fantastic to watch.  It's also been great to be able to combine the Emerging and U19 players into some senior sessions where we can, to test the boys in those environments on and this is something we will continue to do throughout the winter.

On top of these training panels, we have introduced an EPP programme to our pathway this year which identifies, and hand picks a number of 15-18 year olds we feel would benefit from some extra 1:1 or 2:1 coaching per week. These small sessions take place at the players schools during their free periods or lunches where it is possible as well as one dedicated evening session. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the schools for their co-operation so far on this on making it happen.

A huge thanks must also go to Stuart Thompson who is taking two dedicated Knights S and C sessions at UUJ throughout the week that will be a huge benefit to all the players this year.
